Kessel To Toronto, Classic Jerseys Revealed, Phaneuf lays out Okposo

Phil Kessel

Alright, I know, the Loge has been slacking for the past summer. But for good reason, we’ve all been super busy with our respective jobs. But, I, thekiiiiid, promises that we will be back in full swing along with the regular season. It’s been a busy few weeks for all of us. So, lets get to it. Kessel goes to the Leafs for 2 first round draft picks. Yea Burke? Dude, in all honesty take him. I was blown back by this acquisition for about 2 minutes, then I thought, whatevs….Kessel didn’t buy into Julien’s system, nor will he buy into Burkes. I know, he’ll score atleast 6 goals against the B’s this year….but if I learned one thing during the first round playoff series against the Canadiens last year, f*** ’em. Tonight people were telling me, “Yo, he got a long-term contract for a lot of money.” Wow, cool, I hope his loonies and toonies keep him warm at night while the Cup is passed around the Garden or UC. Money only makes sense in the NFL or NBA, championships mean more in the NHL. What does Brian Burke, Toronto GM have to say? Well if you can decipher what he has to articulate between bourbon shots, listen here.  So, what does this mean for the B’s? Nothing, Sturm is back, we picked up Begin, Krejci is will be ready in November and hopefully at that point Rask is ready to rock if Thomas is tired. For Toronto? Who cares? Komisarek will yuckie his pants like he did with the mediocre Habs, and their goalie situation is still questionable. This has little impact on the Northeast division except that Kessel has more buying power when he plays Boston or Buffalo. I’m over it.

NHL.com with the story:

It was a difficult deal to get done, butToronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke stuck with it, and on Friday night he got his man.

Burke continued his revamping of a franchise that hasn’t made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the 2003-04 season, acquiring 21-year-old center Phil Kessel from theBoston Bruins in exchange for a pair of first-round draft picks and a second-rounder.

The trade was contingent on Kessel signing a contract with his new team, which he did by agreeing to a deal TSN was reporting is worth $27 million over five years.

BC/BU and UNH/Northeastern To Pair Off In Their Own Winter Classic?

It has already been determined that the Boston Bruins will be hosting the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 Winter Classic, at America’s second most beloved ballpark. There was also word that Boston College would play Boston University in an encore game the following day. Now Boston.com is reporting that on August 20th the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Sports Group, and Hockey East will be hosting a press conference at Fenway. The article goes on to say a press release states that also in attendance will be head ice hockey coaches and student-athletes from BU, BC, Northeastern, and UNH.

So based on what happened last time there was a press conference at Fenway with hockey teams involved, we can assume what the outcome will be. Furthermore, an inside source has told us that the BU/BC game is definitely on while the NU/UNH game is being hashed out. Pretty awesome if you ask me! To have UNH play Northeastern in the afternoon and then BU play BC in the evening would be amazing! More to come on this story.

Top Hits of the 2008-2009 NHL Season

I’m going to go with the top hits of the ’08-’09 season because metaphorically that’s what the kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid’s going through today. Because I am getting RAILROADED with work right now…enjoy the video, I have not been able to watch it yet.

By the way, I was walking past Tresca last night on my way home from work, and outside they had pictures of local Bruins players, autographed, with a note like “Thanks for the great food, Milan Lucic”. I was thinking, if I ate at Tresca or Lucca or whatever, I wonder if they would post a picture of me sitting in my cube working, an action shot of course, with a little note. I think it would be pretty cool, my only concern is that someone would try and steal it to make a few bucks by selling it on eBay.

OK, I had a chance to watch the video, and I think I can align my day really well with hit #4 or #2. Here’s why, as for hit #4, here I am thinking I’m  making a pretty good play today, I put the puck on net (finish off some projects) and then BAAAAAAAAAAM, I get blindsided and my sh*t goes everywhere….as for hit #2, here I am going through my day going to make some moves, get the puck deep, yea I know I’m going to get rubbed out, but whatever. Next thing you know the GD turnbuckle shows its face and picking my chicklets up off the ice (translated to I’m trying to cruise out of here, under the radar, I’ll probably have some things to do, and then BOOM, I get my clock cleaned by some project I didn’t anticipate).

Truer Words Never Spoken

Adam Burish

So a quick two part post on this hot and muggy Wednesday afternoon. First, puckdaddy over at Yahoo! has repoprted that six teams will have alternative/additional looks this season. The coolest of which has to be the Chicago Blackhawks, who will be sporting their Winter Classic jerseys as the third jersey instead of the all black third jersey.

thekiiid’s Top 3 Games of the ’08-’09 Season

I wanted to do this after the Boston Bruins were knocked out, but I was unhappy, and lazy, so I’m going to do it now. I want to go over the top 3 games I attended this past season. I was able to see quite a few games this year, in a few different venues, so this is not limited to Bruins games alone, instead games I attended around the league.  So, before the announcement from the NHL this afternoon, here are my top three games of the season, feel free to post yours:

3.

The third best game I saw this season is actually a tie. It’s a tie between the Redwings/Bruins game on November 29th and the Blackhawks/Bruins game on March 7th. I have these at a tie for a few reasons and on my top 3 games this season for another. First of all, in general, the reason these games are on my top three are because this is something the NHL needs to do on an annual basis. The NHL needs to renew the rivalries of the Original 6 teams. Although people say the Original 6 is no big deal and yada yada yada, it’s the heritage of the league. It’s a shame that teams in the Western Conference  only see Eastern Conference Original 6 matchups maybe a few times during the season, and vice-versa.

Thank You Logers

So as you know the Loge has been DOA for the past 2 months, and I don’t blame most of you for the harsh words you have sent my way. We got cocky with how well our first season went, and we took our Logers for granted. Well, thekiiid is here to apologize, and thank you for your support. Things grew at a rate this season we never expected, and we had a great following. So, first and foremost, I want to thank each of our visitors, and especially those who take time to visit us daily and comment.

To that note, I am happy to announce that the Loge will be around for the ’09/’10 season, which we’ll start right now.  (We also renewed our season tickets so we will be spending another season in Loge 19, at the Garden) Think of this as the Loge signing a long term contract after a stellar rookie season. Right now we’re still in negotiations to bring back some of the authors, and maybe let some of them test the free agency market to see if they can get any better offers.

To be honest, and most of the contributors here can atest to, after our respective teams were knocked out of the playoffs, our desire to post did too. I couldn’t watch the Conference Finals with much interest, and the Stanley Cup Finals had me thinking what it would have been like to see a B’s/Hawks series. Then free agency came around, and I could not muster up the energy to report on it, but no worries, we’ll get some coverage and look at some of the free agents still out there.

So, as Commissionerdangle has pointed out, we are up for a treat thanks to the NHL tomorrow in announcing “something important” at Fenway Park. Even though we know what the announcement is about, we just need to find out who the Bruins will be playing for the third annual Winter Classic, in the fourth consecutive year the NHL will host an outdoor game.

So, again, thanks for to everyone for visiting this past season, lets make the ’09/’10 season even better!

Fenway Park to host major NHL announcement tomorrow

I wonder what it could be?….
fenway_winterclassic_medium
In what comes as no surprise, the NHL has reserved Fenway Park tomorrow for a major announcement. That announcement, of course, being that the Boston Bruins and Fenway Park will host the 2010 NHL Winter Classic. More from Fluto:

Fenway the stage for a Classic

The NHL will unveil the worst-kept secret Wednesday at Fenway Park, officially introducing the famed ballpark as the site of the 2010 Winter Classic. The Bruins will host Philadelphia Jan. 1 in the third Winter Classic.

The 2009 outdoor game took place at Wrigley Field between Chicago and Detroit. The inaugural Winter Classic was held in 2008, at Ralph Wilson Stadium between Buffalo and Pittsburgh.

Defending NCAA champion Boston University will play Boston College in an outdoor game as part of the Winter Classic. There is also discussion about making the Fenway rink available for open skates to the public.

A news conference will take place at 2 p.m. It will be simulcast on the NHL Network and streamed at www.nhl.com.

Needless to say, Loge 19 is extremely excited for this to happen. The anticipation for this announcement has been growing since the conclusion of the 2009 Winter Classic in Chicago and The Kiiiid began speculating about a game at Fenway. Honestly, I am a little disappointing that Montreal is not the opponent for the Bruins, but I can get over it. Although the NHL has made strides this year, they still have no leverage over the suits at NBC so they had to accept whatever opponent NBC thought would draw the most ratings. Bringing in the Flyers and their newest Broad Street Bully, Chris Pronger, will be more than enough to make this event special. Let’s just hope for some cold weather around Jan 1!!

Bruins To Host Flyers or Capitals At Fenway

Fenway Puck

This just in from Boston.com, the Bruins will host either the Washington Capitals or the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 1. Furthermore, they are also confirming that the 2010 Winter Classic will be played in Boston this year, gauranteed. Look for an official announcement from the NHL sometime in July.

From Boston.com

Yes, there will be a sheet of ice in Fenway Park for a Jan. 1 Winter Classic. It’s a done deal, Bruins vs. either the Capitals or Flyers. The league will make it official at the start of July, with a splashy media event in the old ballpark. NHL free agency begins July 1, which grabs headlines around league cities (except for Phoenix, of course) for 2-3 days. The Sox play at home July 3-12. If the league wants the day for full media attention, it likely will wait for July 13-14 to make official all details, including how to purchase tickets.
