For Sale: 1 Bruins Season Ticket, Great Seats, Terrible Team and Management

Chuck Kobasew

What’s going on at the TD Garden? Well I know what’s not going on, winning. The B’s drop another one to soon-to-be homeless Phoenix after stomping Dallas 3-0. Where is the consistency? And then, they go and trade slumping Chuck Kobasew to Minnesota for “rights” to sign forward Alexander Fallstrom and forward Craig Weller, and the Wild’s 2011 second round draft pick. So let me get this sorted out, the B’s were going to deal Kobasew in the off season so they could sign Kessel, they don’t, instead the get draft picks, Kessel goes to Toronto and now we get rid of Kobasew for some potentially signed forwards and a draft pick. Chiarelli, how many picks do you want? You’re picking up draft picks like they are dot-com stock shares in the late 90’s.

Boston Bruins Add Derek Morris

Derek Morris

On Saturday the Bruins added some more size and muscle to their blue line by signing Derek Morris to a 1-year contract. The 6-foot, 220 lbs, veteran bulldozer “offensive” defenseman joins the B’s in his 13th year in the league. An interesting move by the B’s after I was convinced they moved Aaron Ward to Carolina to make room for Kessel. However, I think Morris is a nice upgrade from Ward, I hope is 1-year $3 million paycheck is worth it.

It’s nice to see some more experience on the B’s back line. I’m not familiar with Morris, I’ve only seen him play a few times. But, he’ll be back together with some of his old teammates including, Savard, Kobasew, fellow d-man Ference, and newly aquired Begin. If anything Morris should be a little more solid than crazy legs Montador, who was so unpredictable the only thing you could count on was an adventure whenever he had the puck on his stick.

3 things. 1. What does this mean for Kessel? 2. Will the Bruins make any more moves to up their scoring power? 3. Does anyone get the reference to the posted picture? If so, I’ll figure something out to send you. I have a few posters left over from the playoffs.

Additionally, Eaves has cleared waivers, which means the B’s are now eligable to pay him outright, thus making him an unrestricted free agent. Not sure about the salary cap, but why not just keep him around?

Morris seems to be pretty psyched about coming to Boston, which is good to hear. Boston.com has more on the story, which is actually a good read and brush-up on Morris as a player on and off the ice.

Kessel Resigns With Bruins; Aaron Ward Back To Carolina

OK, well this is not entirely true, but you can mark this post. Loge19.com is making the call that the Bruins will be resigning Phil Kessel for the 2010 season any day now. How can we make such a claim with unwaivering confidence? Look at the facts: Today the Boston Bruins traded defenseman Aaron Ward to Carolina for Boston College Alum Patrick Eaves and a 2010 fourth round draft pick. Here’s the catch, as soon as the transaction was completed, the Bruins immediately put Eaves on waivers in hopes of another team picking up the contract, or the Bruins buying him out.

Why does this matter? With the Ward trade and Eaves on waivers, this clears up about $2.5 million in cap space that the Bruins were to pay Ward this season. Additionally they may not have to put forward the $1.7 million to Eaves, if someone picks him up. Hopefully you’re starting to see the light here.
