UPDATE: Video of Downie’s slash; Handed 20-Game Suspension, Again

I have found the video of Steve Downey slashing the referee, and earning a 20-game suspension. It’s quick, but Downie is the centerman in the dark jersey. It’s pretty ridiculous how flagrant he was about this.

Steve Downie has managed to get himself in trouble again, with another 20 game suspension. His first 20 game suspension stemming from a huge hit Downie put on Dean McAmmond back in 2007. This time, Downie earned 20 games for slashing an official at the end of a game. Downie, now playing for the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, has 8 goals, 17 assists and 107 penalty minutes in 22 games for the Lightning affiliate. The kid’s a good player, and was highly touted while playing in the OHL, but his career has been going downhill due to his on-ice conduct. Between this suspension, the suspension a year ago, and his fight with Akim Aliu, the Windsor Spitfire top draft pick. 25 points in 22 games is pretty incredible, but add in almost 5 minutes in penalty time per game, not being a fighter, and you’re going to bring some bad attention to yourself.
