lightning strikes five times

The Tampa Bay Lightning dominated play from start to finish scoring five unanswered goals defeating the New York Rangers 5-1. The Lightning scored two goals in the opening period and two more in the second. At that point, John Tortorella had seen enough of Henrik Lundqvist (four goals on 22 shots). Steven Valiquette came in and gave up one goal on eight shots. The game was very close to getting out of control at times. There were five roughing penalties, four fighting majors, and three misconducts.

Saturday’s “original six” tilt between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins could be a preview of a possible first round match-up between these East Conference foes.
