Adam Burish Down To 7 Lives

I’m sure most of you have seen this, but those that have not, Adam Burish must have some feline traits in  him. Clearly he has used up 2 of his 9 lives, that we know about. His first, was the car accident he was in as a teenager, and now almost getting his neck sliced open by teammate Ben Eager. When you watch the video, Burish does not have much of a reaction when Eager’s skate cuts him. He knew the blade had made contact, but he checked for blood and kept going. Of course, this was eerily reminiscent to the Richard Zednik incident last year. And who could forget about Buffalo’s Malarchuck getting his throat severly cut. (Warning, this video is graphic) Luckily for Adam he was just grazed and will be OK to play in tonight’s Game 2.

Adam Burish

Immediately after the game’s Adam Kimelman caught up with Adam Burish to get his thoughts. Burish had some interesting things to say about the incident with Eager’s skate, and his presence in the lockerroom. Nothing says NHL playoffs like considering a punch in the face as something positive.

Sunday, 05.17.2009 / 7:50 PM / Conference Finals: Detroit vs. Chicago
By Adam Kimelman  – Staff Writer
DETROIT — Adam Burish knew immediately there was a problem.”I saw his skate come right up my throat, and right away I grabbed my neck and said there’s something coming out here,” Burish said. “There were a couple drips, so I was pretty darn lucky.”
It was the second period, and Burish and linemate
Ben Eager were forechecking in the Detroit zone when Eager and a Detroit player got tied up. Eager lost his balance and his skate flew up and clipped Burish in the throat.

It was a play reminiscent to the scary Richard Zednik incident last season, when Olli Jokinen’s skate blade sliced Zednik’s jugular vein.

But Burish was more fortunate; he skated away from Eager’s out-of-control skate knowing he was a lucky man.

Staal Brothers Competition

I’m back from New York City, and from the looks of it most of our viewers are now in their off-season. That’s cool though, the true Logers are sticking around. A few house-keeping items before we get into it today. First, the trip to NYC/NJ went pretty smooth, the roughest part was getting up at 5:30am the following morning trying to catch the Orange Line train at Haymarket. Luckily for me, the train was running more late than I was.

Second, Versus sent me a bunch of shirts and posters over the weekend, actually a toooon of posters. The shirts are actually really cool so I’m going to give them away in a competition type format. Everytime I think of something clever I’ll post it, and the winner gets a shirt and a poster. If you want just the poster I’m sure I can send it, I have a bunch. Since I was gone this weekend I was not able to do anything for the Wings/Hawks Game 1, but that’s fine we’ll start it with Game 2. For the Penguins/Hurricanes series, which starts tonight, we’ll start it off with this. Which Staal brother will have more POINTS, Jordan or Eric? Here is what you have to do, in the comment section post which Staal brother you think will have more points throughout the series. Here is how the tie-break will work, since we’ll have a bunch. The first tie-breaker is giving us the exact number of points the winning brother will have, and the second tie-breaker will be giving us the number of points the losing brother will have. If we’re still tied after that, I guess we can give away a few shirts considering we’re just starting off. So, in the comments section  post your selection, be sure to use your real email address so we can contact the winner. Other viewers cannot contact you because your email address is not visible, but we can see it.

Tonight I’ll take a picture of the shirt and poster so you know what you’re competing for, please make all selections no later than 7:30 pm Eastern Time.

Bear with us today, it’s going to be slow. I’m going to be catching up on a lot of stuff today and I think the other writers are still recovering from their night at the Liberty Hotel. Check back in tonight, and make your pics now for the Staal Brothers Points Competition.

 Here are the rules again:

  • Pick which Staal Brother, Eric or Jordan, will have the most POINTS in the series. (Goals and Assists combined.) FYI Jordan plays for Pittsburgh, Eric plays for Carolina.
  • The winner will get a Versus t-shirt and poster
  • Please submit how many points you think each brother will have as that will serve as the tie-breaker
    • First tie breaker is guessing the correct amount of points the winning brother will have
    • Second tie breaker is guessing the correct amount of points the losing brother will have.
  • Post your submission in the comments box, it closes at 7:30 pm EST tonight
  • Be sure to use your real email address so we can notify the winner
  • You don’t need to create a login or password, the comment section is open to everyone
  • Duplicate submissions will be deleted along with the original

Chicago Spots Vancouver a Game; Boston Begins Series Tonight

I had to hold off on summarizing the Blackhawks/Canucks game until this afternoon. I’m still really fired up about Chicago roaring back from a 3-goal deficit just to blow it in the last 1:14 of the game. To begin, Chicago cannot expect to win games after spotting another team 3 goals. They did it in Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals and lost, then they did it again last night. While it’s awesome to see they have the resolve to come back, there’s just too much of a hurdle to overcome, not to mention the energy needed after a grueling 6-game series. Don’t get me wrong, I’m psyched to see that the Hawks can put 3 past Luongo in one period, and for Kane to have 2 jingles (66% of his playoff scoring in one night) but it looked like Chicago’s first rodeo last night. ‘Boulin looked a little shakey and some of the goals that Chicago let up were soft, ie Toews coughing up the puck at the blueline. However, Bolland’s game-tying goal was pretty disgusting, I saw some remenants of thekiiiiiiiiiiid in that!
