Philly v.s. B’s Game Reaction

SCARED BEAR

  • Had the score right, just not the team…
  • Gagne looked real good out there. 2 goals and set up a bunch of nice plays.
  • Bruins looked good in the 1st period but struggled like Mike Milbury at the mic in the 2nd in 3rd.
  • Speaking of Milbury, how brutal was he when he didn’t have a script in front of him and had to cover for Edwards and Brickley when their mics went down? Someone in the crowd should have turned around and beat him with his shoe and put him out of his misery.
  • It was pretty funny watching the NESN audio completely failed in the middle of the game. I wish I was standing around the Garden watching Brickley and Edwards running up and down from the press box to the 5th floor trying to call a the game. I’ll give Edwards credit for his improv though.
  • Too bad Brickley didn’t drop any F-bombs this time
  • Carter is scary on the penalty kill. Flyers have 16 short handed goals, 6 more than the Devils, Islanders, Sharks and Canadians who each have 10.
  • Really thought there was going to be a fight after Chara’s penalty. Bruins probably could have used it in the 2nd or 3rd. Not sure why Thornton or Bitz did not decide to indulge in any extracurricular activities.
  • This was a good playoff preview/test for the Bruins; low shots, lots of hitting and high intensity. I give them a C+ on the test.

NHL.com:

  • “We’re not showing a lot of chemistry and emotion right now. We’ve got to pick up the consistency,” forward Michael Ryder said. “We know we have a good team and we know we can win. If management thinks they can do something that can help us, that’s good.”
  • Is that a cry for help from Ryder? from what I have read the past few weeks/months, the entire team has praying that management not make any trades. Have they finally realized that something is missing? or that one or two injuries can really throw a team off?
  • Was that Bergeron’s last goal as a Bruin? I keep seeing his name come up a good amount more than any other Bruin’s roster player in trade talks
  • Cant wait to see what the trade deadline brings for the B’s and the NHL overall

Game Day: Broad Street meets Causeway Street

capsgames017

Alright here we go…

  • Bruins – 42-12-9. 93 pts – 1st place in East
  • Flyers  – 33-18-10. 76 pts – 4th place in East
  • Bruins are 84-54-21-4 v.s. the Flyers all time
  • This is the third of four meetings between these two teams this year. Each team has won one game.
  • Last time they met the Flyers won in overtime at the Garden on Feb 7 on a fluke-dump in goal off of Chuck Kobasew’s leg
  • That goal gave me a second reason to hate Randy Jones. (first being his intimate introduction of  Patrice Bergeron‘s face to the boards last year)
  • Philly is coming off consecutive losses to the Devils on Sunday and Canadians on Friday
  • Boston is coming off a 4-3 OT loss to the Capitals on a fluke-ish dump in goal that Thomas probably should have had. The feeling inside the Garden when Semin scored only 22 seconds into overtime was almost the same ‘what the hell was that?’ feeling that happened when Jones scored his OT goal in February for Philly
  • Philly and Boston are tied for 7th in in the league in penalty killing with 83.1%
  • The two teams are also are neck and neck on the power play with Boston edging Philly for 4th place at 22.9% efficiency

Things to look for:

  • Second game back for Danny Briere after being out for 36 games due to abdominal-groin surgery. I cant imagine he is fully back to
  • Will Lucic Play? Last word from Julien after practice is that he is ”day-to-day” and ”He’s a possibility for tomorrow.”
  • Will there be a trade for either team by game time? This is always the time of year that someone gets sent out for warm ups but suspiciously doesn’t come out 20 minutes later for the start of the game…
  • Does Hunwick go on a 3 game goal streak?
  • Jeff Carter = dirty.  36 goals this year. Has not had a goal in 2 games, which means he is overdue
  • Carter has 9 game winning goals this year, good for 2nd in the NHL behind Patrick Marleau of the Sharks
  • Can TT aka ‘The Tank’ aka ”Hamburger’ put the Washington loss and fluke goal behind him? – Of course he can…but I dont want to hear about any “magical goals” that defy gravity and don’t follow the laws of physics after this game.  Even if Carter does something like this:

Bruins 4-2
