Penguins Go Up 2-0/Blackhawks and Wings Game 2 Goal Scorer Guess

He Shoots, He Scores!!!

The Pittsburgh Penguins went up 2-0 on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight by winning in a 7-4 barnburner. Congrats to Loge 69 for winning the Guess the Scorer contest. He has won a Versus t-shirt and poster. Did anyone see Malkin’s third goal of the night? Ridiculous!!! As Ross, “The Answer”, put it, “it must have been hot in the Mellon arena tonight because Malkin was handing out snipesicles”.

Either way, this Stanley Cup Playoffs have been exactly what the NHL asked for. 4 of the leagues top stars, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, and Kane have all scored hat tricks at some point. Ovechkin and Crosby in the same game!

So, for Game 3 of the Hawks/Wings game tomorrow, we’re going to do the same format. In the comments section give me the player you think will score the first goal of the game. As a tie breaker, also give the game time the goal will be scored. The winner will receive a Versus t-shirt and poster.

Boston Bruins Force A Game 7

Game 7 Here We Come!

First off I want to apologize for those of you who visited this morning looking for the Game 6 recap. Last night I was too tired to create a recap and Commissionerdangle needed his beauty rest, and trust me, he needs all he can get. As for the rest of the day, here is my mini rant, some of you may get some enjoyment out of it. On Friday I’m leaving for New York City, New Jersey actually, for my girlfriend’s sister’s wedding. Because of that, I have about 2 weeks of work to do in 4 days. I literally have 47 projects that need to be completed before I take off Thursday night. Here’s where the comedy comes in, on top of that I need to make my own travel arrangements to Red Bank New Jersey. See, I’m not leaving with my girlfriend tonight to go to the wedding. I told her I’m missing her sister’s rehersal dinner in order to go to Game 7. If any of you saw fireworks in Boston last night, it wasn’t the Fourth of July. It was me deciding to watch the Bruins Game 7 at the Garden Thursday night, instead of head to the Garden State. Now I’m taking a 6:30am Mega Bus, Friday morning, to some corner in New York City, walking 6 blocks to Penn Station, taking a train to Red Bank, NJ, and somehow making it to the wedding by 4:30pm. Mind you, I don’t know where the wedding is at, the hotel, or the reception. If you think the Bruins have pressure tomorrow night, call me around 3pm Friday and see where I’m at.  Continue reading ‘Boston Bruins Force A Game 7’

Bruins face adversity: Game 4 preview

top_player

Well if the Bruins really want it as bad as I do, they better get there heads out of their ass or as “The Kiiid” always says, “they will be in for a summer long tee time”. Now I know this isn’t a do or die situation yet and that the Bruins are only down 2-1 in the series, but in my eyes, tonight is basically it for the Bruins. In the History of the NHL playoffs there has been 229 occasions when a team has been down 3-1 in a best of seven series. Of those 229 times, only 20 times has a team come back to win that series. That is a mere 8.7%.  As a betting man, I certainly wouldn’t put money on those odds.

Boston’s Talent Lost in Transit

Bruins Hanging Out

Is that the end of the season I see?

Hey, Boston Bruins, welcome to the second round. I know it’s been a long time since you’ve been here, but stop hitting on the chick checking coats and take advantage of the opportunity inside. This is two games in a row you’ve admired a 5-game winning streak and have played around wearing Jills instead of Jocks since then. Well here are the facts: this Carolina team is no joke, and you’re now 2 losses away from making a summer-long tee time. While that may be fine for you guys, I’d like to postpone my hacking abilities at Leo J. Martin for as long as possible. Everything about tonight’s game was ugly. From the power play(0-9 so far this series), to the defensive zone break downs to the lack of physical play;  the entire performance was god-awful.

The first period started out strong, and Boston looked like they may have righted the ship after Sunday night’s 2-0 loss (empty net goals don’t count- ask Al Iafrate) in Game 2. Milan Lucic started off the scoring by pocketing his first goal of the series after a few quick passes from Wideman and Savard. After Lucic’s goal Carolina and Boston traded penalties with nothing happening on the advantages. However, this is when Boston seemed to start falling apart. The first period did not end strong and Boston started coughing up the puck and forcing it up the boards.

Bruins keys for Game 3 success

chara

After their sweep of Montreal and the drumming they gave Carolina in Game 1, I can relate to the B’s collapse in Game 2. Boston defenseman Aaron Ward said after game 2.

“If we thought we were going through here 16-0, we’re kidding ourselves, and it’s a big test for us now”

A big test is right, and I am very excited to see how the Bruins respond to the lacksadaisickle performance they put forth in Sunday’s 3-0 loss. The good news is that I don’t think it is going to take anything drastic for the Bruins to rebound.

Carolina rides Cam Ward to Game 2 win

Cam Ward sighted on Canal Street outside the Garden after Game 2

Cam Ward sighted on Canal Street outside the Garden after Game 2

Cam Ward made some unbelieveable saves tonight in a 2-0 3-0 (corrected, even though we all know who empty net goals are for…) shutout win over the Bruins. The Hurricanes beat the Bruins for the first time this year while handing them their first loss of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Frustrating game to watch from a Bruins perspective.

Bruins did not deserve to win this game. They were sloppy from the top of their circles to the blue line and had a bunch of give away. I thought that the goal controversy might possibly spark them in the locker room after the 2nd period but no dice. Here is the non-goal:

Round 2: Bruins vs. Hurricanes

whalers-hurricanes-jersey

Well, there has been a lot of talk about The Whale around Loge 19 lately so I will stick with the theme (above). After some late heroics in game 7 by Eric Staal and an epic defensive collapse from Fatso and the Devils, the Hurricanes punched their ticket to Beantown. I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but I did have the Hurricanes winning in 7 games. I know that an all encompassing knowledge of the league is expected from a Commissioner, but I can’t help but being proud of that pick. Almost as proud of my prediction that the Sharks were going to tank it against the Ducks (too bad I was too much of a Sally to actually put that on the Loge). Either way, the Hurricanes are coming to town and I could not be happier. The Bruins were 4-0 against the Hurricanes this year. They won 4-2, 4-2, 5-1, 5-1. 18 goals for 6 goals against. Looks pretty solid. I would say we have this locked up,  right? Hummm, I guess there are a few other things that may factor into this series:
