roller coaster ride continues tuesday

This has been one of the longest and crazies playoffs series I have ever seen. It literally has it all, multiple suspension (Tortorella, Brashear, and maybe Morrisonn), multi-game suspensions (Brasher and again maybe Morrisonn), cheap shots (Brasher and Avery), great goals (Ovechkin), lack of security (Verizon Center), great goaltending (Lundqvist, Varlamov), poor goaltending (Lundqvist, Theodore), and lack of discipline (Avery, Bashear, Tortorella and Caps fans with great seats behind the Rangers bench).

If either one of the teams can deal with distractions it’s the Rangers. In the past year they have let Sean Avery go,only to sign him again. Let Brendan Shanahan go, only to see him sign with rival New Jersey. Fire their head and assistant coaches and hire one that throws water bottles at women. The list goes on and on…

Now it all comes down to the all important game seven. Continue reading ‘roller coaster ride continues tuesday’

Ovechkin’s Amazing Goal (Yes, Another)

I didn’t watch Game 5 of the Caps/Rangers game last night, but while I was at the Volvo Ocean Race today I heard Ovechkin had another ridiculous goal. This has to make, like, 15 highlight reel goals for the year. Right? The Capitals won 4-0 to tighten the Ranger’s series lead to 3-2. It’s going to be an amazing Game 6 on Sunday.

Some amazing games coming up tonight. The Penguins can finish of Philadelphia, Anaheim can send San Jose to the golf course, and the Blackhawks better take Calgary to the brink of elimination.

King Henrik!

henrik-lundqvist-crossed-pads4

The New York Rangers stole another game from the Washington Capitals last night, actually let me start over.

Henrik Lundqvist stole another game from the Washington Capitals last night. The win gave New York a 3-1 advantage in the quarterfinal series. King Henrik was marvelous, stopping 38 or 39 shots in the victory. The Rangers, who boasted the best penalty kill in the regular season, were flawless last night killing off all six Capital power players (including a power player in the last five minutes, thanks to another stupid penalty by Sean Avery). Most importantly the Rangers have held Alex Ovechkin to just one goal in the entire series (the same Ovechkin that scored 56 goals in the not so important regular season).

Now, I don’t want to look ahead, but the Rangers are certainly in good shape heading into Friday’s match-up in Washington. And King Henrik has been standing on top of his head, see photo above! If the Rangers could pull off the victory, they will face the Bruins who certainly look sharp as well. However the Bruins have swept a far less superior Montreal Canadiens. The Florida Panthers would have been a much better opponent. Continue reading ‘King Henrik!’

Ovi Keeps The Laughs Coming

Ovechkin

I don’t have a ton of time so I’m going to throw this up there. Caught this article on NHL.com about Ovechkin playing some mind games with the Rangers this morning during their pre-game skate.

More from NHL.com on the story:

Hockey players show their class, again

Came across this last night and thought I would share, this may rival the other awesome story to come out of the NHL this year. I thought it was pretty cool how Ovi was visiting Toronto that day and paid this kid a visit. Certainly not something he had to do and I doubt he was prompted to do it. Just another hockey player showing how down to earth he is. Props to the Toronto Maple Leafs for putting this together.
