Valiquette and Rangers shutout Ducks

Not even a flying-V or knuckle puck could find the back of the net against Rangers back-up goaltender Steven Valiquette. Valiquette made 18 saves against Anaheim Ducks for his first win of the season. Starting goalie, Henrik Lundqvist was given his first night off of the season as the Rangers play back-to-back nights, hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow night at MSG.

The Ducks were fresh off a lopsided win over the seesawing Boston Bruins (6-1) and a late rally comeback win over the Philadelphia Flyers (3-2 shootout). The Ducks hung in there for a while against the Rangers, but J.S. Giguere could only stand on his head for so long as the Rangers beat him twice in the third period. Ales Kotalik scored his third goal of the season, Artem Anisimov scored his first NHL goal, and Dan Girardi added a late shorthanded empty net goal.

The win moves the Rangers to 4-1 on the season and a tie for first in the NHL with eight points.

The Rangers will face the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow at 7:00 PM at/on MSG.

Sean Avery was back in the lineup Sunday and had one assist.

Marian Gaborik has registered a point in every game this season (7 points – 10th in the NHL in scoring).

some more solid rangers coverage….keep up the good work. When it comes to Bruins websites that are run by rangers and blackhawk fans, this one is by far my favorite.
