roller coaster ride continues tuesday

This has been one of the longest and crazies playoffs series I have ever seen. It literally has it all, multiple suspension (Tortorella, Brashear, and maybe Morrisonn), multi-game suspensions (Brasher and again maybe Morrisonn), cheap shots (Brasher and Avery), great goals (Ovechkin), lack of security (Verizon Center), great goaltending (Lundqvist, Varlamov), poor goaltending (Lundqvist, Theodore), and lack of discipline (Avery, Bashear, Tortorella and Caps fans with great seats behind the Rangers bench).

If either one of the teams can deal with distractions it’s the Rangers. In the past year they have let Sean Avery go,only to sign him again. Let Brendan Shanahan go, only to see him sign with rival New Jersey. Fire their head and assistant coaches and hire one that throws water bottles at women. The list goes on and on…

Now it all comes down to the all important game seven.

For the Rangers to win this game/series they will have to rely on King Henrik. For the Caps to win this game/series they will have to defeat King Henrik. In the first few games of the series that was a tall task, Lundqvist was extremely stingy and basically stole games from the Capitals. As for the last two games Lundqvist struggled. He was pulled from both outings which has left a ton of questions looming over game seven.

The Rangers will be without one of the best forth liners in the NHL in Blair Betts, who suffered a concussion and broken orbital bone on a late hit by Donald Brasher. Betts will be missed on the penalty kill and it is unclear who will replace him. The Rangers have two apparent options, bring in Artem Anisimov or dress Aaron Voros. Neither can truly replace Betts.

It will be interesting to see how Tortorella is “received” at the Verizon Center. It will also be interesting to see how the NHL approved security deals with drunk fans. Finally, if he is not suspended, it will be awkward to see Shoane (Tyson) Morrisonn and Brandon Dubinky square off.

Enjoy the game, hopefully we will see the Rangers/Bruins series we all want…

“I woke up [yesterday] and yeah, you’re upset that you blow a 3-1 lead in the series and it’s 3-3, but we’ve come here to prepare for a Game 7. We’re still not dead,” said coach John Tortorella, who will return after a one-game suspension. “And we go into their building and we won two games there. They have the advantage. Home ice is important for Game 7, but it’s funny what happens with the pressure of it all, too. They’re supposed to win . . . There’s no pressure on us. That’s the key to Game 7 because everybody thinks we’re done. So it falls back on them. They deserved that seventh game, but it’s funny what can happen.”
