Maybe The Best Post Season In Many Years

Have you been religously watching the NHL playoffs like I have? I don’t think I’ve watched this intently since ’92 when the Blackhawks were swept by the Penguins in the Finals. The only other memorable playoff series is in ’94 when the Rangers took the Cup and Messier gauranteed a game 7 win in the semi’s. Of course each year I can pick out a memorable series, like the Detroit/Colorado rivalry, but this year has been awesome. BTW, remember when Stevens laid out Kariya? For some reason I just though of that. Anyway, I’m a huge hockey fan during the regular season, but when a game is on, and it’s not the Bruins or Blackhawks, it will just be background noise while I spin around in my chair at my desk. However, this year has been different, I’m fist-pumping around the apartment, yelling ‘OOOOOOOOOH GIRL” when huge goals are scored, and screaming “BUUUUUNDLED” when someone gets pasted to the boards.

If you’re not paying attention to the Devils/Hurricanes, Flyers/Pens, or Blackhawks/Calgary series’ then you’re missing a lot. How this post-season is not getting more coverage, I don’t know. ESPN has so much garbage coverage on the NBA and NFL draft it’s ridiculous. Although I cannot complain, I think Versus does a much better job of coverage. NBC is trying to get into the act with its game of the week, but I’m not buying it.

So tonight, Philly shut-out the Pens 3-0 to cut the series lead to 3-2 Pittsburgh, with the next game in Philly. New Jersey and Brodeur beat Carolina 1-0 to go up 3-2 in the series, which goes back to Carolina this weekend. San Jose is trying to get its gears turning against Anaheim, who has a 2-1 series lead. The worst part is that I can only really watch 2 games a night, 3 if the Bruins are playing. Versus is the only one with coverage, and you have to figure it would be the end of the world if ESPN would show more than 5 minutes of coverage while I’m eating at work. OK, so no more complaining from me, check out some of these links from around the NHL. If you feel my pain, let me know. I absolutely cannot wait for the weekend, because the Chicago/Calgary/Philly/Pitt/NJ/Carolina series’ are going to be burning up my roomates 50” tv. BTW, I don’t want to give any less credit to the Washington/NYR series. It has been pretty awesome and Lundqvist is putting on a clinic. It’s now 3-1 NYR in the series, and I think the Rangers will close it out in D.C. this weekend.

OK, that’s all for now. There are rumblings of a huge signing here on the Loge, but I don’t think that news will break until next week.

Just to make sure the correct facts are out there, Messier guaranteed victory in Game 6, with the Blueshirts trailing 3-2 in the series.

Next game in the Phi/Pitt series is in Philadelphia, not Pittsburgh.

Any time. Great article, by the way.
