Ovi Keeps The Laughs Coming

Ovechkin

I don’t have a ton of time so I’m going to throw this up there. Caught this article on NHL.com about Ovechkin playing some mind games with the Rangers this morning during their pre-game skate.

More from NHL.com on the story:

Ovie crashes the Garden ‘party’

Asked later why he went out there to watch the Rangers practice, No. 8 smiled and said in his improved but still slightly broken English, “Just Tortorella [ticks] off.”

Well, why do you think they asked you to leave Ovie?

“Because they’re afraid of me, all right?” Ovechkin said before walking away.

Seems Ovechkin isn’t nervous heading into Game 3 Monday night here at the Garden (7 p.m. ET, VERSUS, TSN) even though his team trails the best-of-7 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, 2-0, and was shut out in Game 2 on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a fun time and it’s a hard time and we like when it’s a hard time for our team,” Ovechkin said. “We bounce back. Right now we have a little bit of pressure, but if we win one game the pressure bounces back to the other locker room. Everybody is going to think, ‘Oh, they bounced back and they’re coming.’ ”

That’s exactly what the Capitals are hoping for out of Monday night’s game.

NEW YORK — The New York Rangers had an interested observer sitting on the visitor’s bench as they took the ice for their pregame skate Monday morning.  Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin was watching the Rangers practice when a Rangers trainer complained to the Capitals. Washington PR man Nate Ewell then asked Ovechkin to leave the area.

“Alex was just looking for a place to relax. He likes being by the ice,” said Ewell. “As soon as he found out it made the Rangers uncomfortable, he left.” When asked why the Rangers wanted him to leave, Ovechkin joked: “Because they’re afraid of me.” When asked why he did it, Ovechkin joked that he sat there to “tick off” Rangers coach John Tortorella. His answer drew many laughs from reporters. Tortorella insisted after the skate he had no idea Ovechkin was there.

“Who? Oh, god, this is the first I’ve heard of it,” said Tortorella. “Ask me a question about the game, not that [expletive].”

“I don’t think he had a pen and paper and was writing down line combinations,” joked Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau. “I can understand [the Rangers asking him to leave]. I’ve gotten into the same arguments with people when I’ve wanted privacy in my practice, so I can understand what John was going through.”

That is just part of the “Ovie” battleplan. It is a “war” you know so it starts with the “cold shoulder” and quiet observation. At least, in Ovie’s mind. http://www.chicshockey.com
