Bruins Take Eastern Conference; Rangers booking April t-times

The Tank

Tank Thomas shut-out the New York Rangers to take the Eastern Conference and gaurantee home ice for the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. A couple quick notes:

  • commissionerdangle is officially blacked out at 6:32pm
  • clarkdub will be making a permanent t-time any minute now, along with owing most of the loge19 staff a round of drinks
  • The B’s could potentially be facing the Panthers first round
  • Krejci wins the 7th man award
  • Big Habs/Leafs game tonight for Montreal
  • Wheeler scored his 21st of the season tonight (also the game winning goal)
  • Avery proved why the rest of the league hates him
  • Anyone hear the final word on Ference?
  • commissionerdangle is now on his 14th beer of the night….uh oh!
  • Cleary’s tonight for a post-game celebration….if you can pinpoint commissionerdangle, he’ll buy you a drink.

I will be the first on to say this. If the Rangers make the playoffs (that is a big IF) and play the Bruins in the first round, the Rangers will win the series. The difference maker will be King Henrik. Thomas has minimal playoff experience and his horrible technique will have to catch up with him eventually. Lundqvist will be the difference maker and the Rangers will win the series.

The Rangers have scored the second least ammount of goals in the eastern conference so matching up with the Bruins, the team that has given up the lease amnmount of goals in the NHL is not a good matchup for New York. Not to mention the fact that all the Rangers have is the power play, and with the way the Bruins have been killing penalties lately good luck with that. Axelsson and Yelle have been a dominant force on the PK for the past few weeks and the bruins havent given up a pp goal in 4 games. The Rangers have no shot…..WAKE UP!

You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. The Rangers power play is horrible, 29th in the NHL! They do not score a lot of goals but they also do not give up a lot of goals. What they have is a great penalty kill, 1st in the NHL and they also have a great goalie and that is what wins you playoff games, series, and most importantly cups.

There is no questions the Bruins had a great regular season, but they haven’t shown anything until they win in the playoffs, because that is where it counts. It has been 10 years since the Bruins have won a playoff series (1999 over Carolina and then lost to Buffalo).

The Rangers split the season series 2-2 with the Bruins and every game was decided by one goal. These two teams clearly match up very well. The Rangers have won a playoff series each of the last two season and have a better goalie. Lundqvist has more wins than Thomas this year 35-34, more wins in his short career 139-107, more playoffs wins 11-3, and a better career goals against average and save percentage.

If you are going to step into the loge, get your fact straight…

You’re right I was giving the Rangers PP too much credit, i must have missed read a stat and was wrong about that…..so i guess they are worse off than i thought. Its a moot point anyway because the Rangers are not going to make the playoffs. Even if they make the playoffs do you think a team that has been mediocre all year, that can barely qualify for the post season, is going to just flip a switch and go win the cup because they have a good goalie? Why hasn’t that formula worked for them all regular season? There is a reason they only have 89 points. I agree Lundqvist is nasty, but it takes more. And as far as Thomas’ style catching up to him….the guy has been the best goalie in the league all year (pretty big sample size). People have been testing his style all year and it has worked pretty efficiently. If there was anything to be exposed about a flaw in his style it probably would have happened already. Once the playoffs start im pretty sure he’s not going to forget how to play the position.

At the end of the day you actually helped solidified my point that the Rangers are simply just not that good. They are a shitty team with a good goalie.

If you’re going to step into the loge, dont talk shit about a team that won’t even be in the playoffs tough guy.
