Game one of a possible eight.

Saturday’s “original six” tilt between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins could be a preview of a possible first round match-up between these East Conference foes. The puck drops at 1:00 PM on NESN and MSG+ (MSG+ translates to me having to watch the NESN broadcast on mute).

The Bruins currently sit atop the East Conference standings and recently clinched home ice (through at least the first three rounds of the playoffs) thanks to an overtime loss by the Washington Capitals. The Rangers (78 games played) find themselves playing inconsistent 8th place hockey, with a slight two point advantage over the Florida Panthers (78 games played) and a four point advantage over the Buffalo Sabres (77 games played).

The Rangers hold a slight advantage in the season series over the Bruins and all games have resulted in one goal victories. In fact, every game last year between the Rangers and Bruins were decided by one goal as well! If the Bruins win Saturday, they can even the series. Special teams will play a very important role in this eight game battle. The Bruins have the 4th best power play in the NHL and the Rangers sit in a disappointing 29th place. On the flip-side, the Rangers boast the best PK in the league, while the Bruins are in 7th.

We should all sit back, relax and enjoy this potential series. The loser can make an early tee time. Actually, if the Bruins win the series, I will treat the loge19.com crew to a round on me (I will even wear black and yellow).
