NHL Fight of the Week-3/30

To start off my “… of the Week” series I’m going to designate Monday as “Fight of the Week”. Why Monday? Well it’s typically the day you want tickle someones ivories because you’re not quite ready for the weekend to be over yet. Initially I was going to go with the Vancouver Canucks vs. Chicago Blackhawks line brawls, but commissionerdangle already used that in his NHL Links post. For one, I don’t want to double post, it’s bad form, and two, the commish beat me to it. I’d like to note though, there is nothing like a good line brawl to spark an old-school hockey nostalgic feeling.

Instead I went with Riley Cote of the Philadelphia Flyers and Joel Rechlicz of the New York Islanders. This was a great bout, in total about 90 seconds, which is an eternity for a fight. A lot of wrestling in this match, but I have to give the nod to Rechlicz as the winner. The biggest contributor to this fight winning “NHL Fight of the Week” is the fact that the Isles wore their throwback jerseys, and in honor of those jerseys Rechlicz sported the mustache. Between his facial hair, jersey, and flow, I would have thought this bought took place back in ’82 when the Islanders won the cup.

I would like to give honorable mention to the Canucks/Hawks fight with some images of the yard sale that ensued. Not to mention the sin bin filled with about half the Hawks bench. On top of that, Getty Images had a great shot of the Blackahawks Ice Girls (the best in the league).
