NCAA Playoff Update

The only game that I caught was the BU-BC game. Not the most exciting game until the third period. BC took a 1-0 lead at the 17:50 minute mark of the 2st period. BU decided halfway through the third period that they wanted to play hockey the following night and scored 3 goals in :44 seconds, a Hockey East tournament record. BC narrowed the score to 3-2 with 5:42 left on the clock but couldn’t tie the game with John Muse pulled for an extra attacker. Final Score: Bu-3 BC-2. Last night was most likely the end of the road for BC this year who needed to win the Hockey East Playoffs if they wanted to go to the big dance. No Hockey East championship for BC + no at large bid for BC = new national champion in 2009…

Boston, MA

#1 Boston University vs. #6 Boston College

BU over BC, 3-2

#2 Northeastern vs. #5 Umass Lowell

UML over NU, 3-2 OT

Umass Lowell was down 0-2 late in the 2nd period, scored a goal with 1:16 left in the 2nd period, tied the game up with :20 seconds left in the game and won in OT

BU v.s. UML tonight for the Hockey East Championship

ECAC

Albany, NY

#1 Yale vs. #4 St. Lawrence

Yale over St Lawrence, 4-3.

StLU was winning 3-2 with 1:28 left in the game when Yale tied the game at 3-3. :22 seconds later Yale scored the game wining goal with only 1:06 left on the clock. Epic loss for StLU

#2 Cornell vs. #3 Princeton

Cornell over Princeton,4-3 2OT

Cornell tied the game at 3-3 with :25 seconds left in the 3rd and won in  double over time.

Atlantic Hockey

Rochester, NY

#4 Bentley vs. #1 Air Force

Air Force over Bently, 3-0

#3 Mercyhurst vs. #2 RIT

Mercyhurst over RIT, 5-4 OT

Unlike the Cornell/Princeton, Yale/StLU and UML/NU games, the team that tied the game up late didnt seal the deal. RIT tied the game up with :59 seconds left in the game but Mercyhurst prevailed in OT.

DIII National Chamionship game today at 5:00 in Herb Brooks Arena in the the historic Lake Placid (you know, like the movie).
