NCAA Hockey Playoff Weekend

USCHO.com has a great PairWise Predictor for the Division I games this weekend

Division I

Atlantic Hockey

Rochester, NY

#4 Bentley vs. #1 Air Force

Air force was the number one team in the conference all year but struggled to beat Sacred Heart last weekend.  They did win 3 out 4 meetings this year.

#3 Mercyhurst vs. #2 RIT

This is an even match up however RIT won both games during the regular season.

Detroit Michigan

#1 Notre Dame vs. #4 Northern Michigan

Notre Dame the number one team in the country won all four games during the regular season with only one being relatively close.

#2 Michigan vs. Alaska

Michigan is all the way up to # 3 in the country.  After starting the season 8-7 they are 19-3 in there last 22 games. The two teams split the games in the regular season.

Albany, NY (rumor on the street is that these will be back in Lake Placid next year)

#1 Yale vs. #4 St. Lawrence

St. Lawrence won the first game of the year in OT and the two teams tied the second one.  Yale is ranked 7th nationally while St. Lawrence is 14th.  The bulldogs had a strong finish going 10-2-1 in there final thirteen games.

#2 Cornell vs. #3 Princeton

This match up sees the 8th nationally ranked Tigers vs. the 9th ranked big red in a match up that should be barn burner.  However, there is no such thing as a barn burner in shitty Pepsi Arena.

Hockey East

Boston, MA

#1 Boston University vs. #6 Boston College

BU went 2-0-1 against the eagles this year and up until this past week was ranked number one in the country for the majority of the season.  BC closed the season winning 5 out of 6 including wins against Northeastern and two last weekend in the first round at UNH.

#2 Northeastern vs. #5 Umass Lowell

Northeastern won all three games during the regular season.  Umass Lowell has won four in a row including two on the road last weekend at UVM.

#5 Minnesota Duluth vs. #1 North Dakota

In a huge win last night over arch rival Minnesota the bulldogs are poised to knock off #6 nationally North Dakota.  Duluth did go 1-0-1 against the North Dakota during the regular season.  However, the Fighting Sioux have only lost one game in there last 11.

#2 Denver vs. #3 Wisconsin

This should be great game with both teams playing well at the end of the year.  The pioneers swept all four games during the regular season but 3 out 4 were close.  Beating a team five times in one year is never easy.

Division III

Final Four

Lake Placid, NY

Neumann vs. Hobart

In a Battle of two ECAC west teams that know each other very well Neumann comes in as the hottest team in the country having won 7 in a row including wins over Elmira, Hobart and Plattsburgh.

Gustavus Adolphus vs. Wisconsin Stout.

Gustavus has used a stellar playoff run to reach the final four.  Included in that run was an upsetting win at Wisconsin Superior last weekend.  Stout amazingly has only lost one game in there last twenty one which can be a good or a bad thing.  Gustavus did however; win the only meeting of the year back in November.

HEYYY, it’s LPsnipa6! I thought you were done with the blog, but you have come back with vengence. The ECAC East should be a great showdown. The league on the whole has really become a much more competitive league (on a national level) in the past few years. Princeton has steadily gotten better each year that Guy Gadowsky has been there, and Cornell’s goaltender is NHL quality. Yale has really turned it on, although I don’t know much about them. Having multiple teams nationally ranked is not a common occurence in that league. Nice Work Snipa.
