Phoenix Coyotes v San Jose Sharks

I know this is a day or two late, I only have access to two shared computers that are mostly occupied by some blue hairs checking their Geritol prescription, but on Tuesday night I had the chance to see San Jose take on Phoenix. It was grossly apparent that “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky has been hanging out in the Loge for the past week reading the articles. After my rant earlier this week, regarding the lack of desire the Coyotes showed against the Nashville Predators, the Coyotes certainly picked up their intensity against one of the best teams in the league. This was probably one of the better games I was able to see this year. Although I went into the arena planning on seeing a blow-out, Phoenix really took it to San Jose. This game had pretty much everything you wanted, great goals, big hits, and a lot of fights.

I had a couple of reasons to be cheering for Phoenix on Tuesday night. First, San Jose has been all over Boston for the President’s Cup. Second, I’m a sudo Coyotes fan when I’m in Phoenix, and these guys are so bad it’s like watching a train wreck, you know it’s tough but you just have to see what happens. Although, after Tuesday  night and some of the recently acquired talent Phoenix could be a contender, that is if they’re not sold to an oil baron in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan.

So, lets make this quick, I’ve got some of the elders getting restless because they’re not able to check their “electronic mail box”. Phoenix started the game off quick with a goal by Kyle Turris :12 into the tilt. Terrible goal let up by Nabakov, but Turris was going hard to the net after Shane Doan blasted a shot/dump-in from the blue line. Turris followed up his goal exactly 15 minutes later on a pass from Doan. A little more than 3 minutes later Doan and Turris teamed up to give Kalinin his second of the year, Kalinin looked about as surprised as I did when it went in. The first period was exciting scoring wise, but Phoenix tough guy Dan Winnik was working on selling some board advertising, using San Jose’s Boyle as his first client. Although it was a clean hit, Rob Blake decided to hug it out on the ensuing face off.

In the second Thorton slid one into the Phoenix net to cut the Phoenix’s lead to 2, however the secod period had some great fireworks. About five minutes into the second Phoenix’s Brian McGrattan squared off with San Jose’s Jody Shelley in order to settle some differences, and one of the better fights of the year. A minute later Coyotoe’s Brandon Prust took on the Shark’s Brad Staubitz after Staubitz may or may not have taken a run at a Phoenix player. Both players squared up and had it out after a chippy second period.

The third period became very interesting after San Jose tied the score up at 3 on goals from Marleau and Thorton. It’s a good thing there were San Jose fans in the building otherwise the place would have been dead silent for the remainder of the third, San Jose fans just about outnumbered Phoenix fans. It looked as though we were going to see overtime until Phoenix captain Shane Doan put in a highlight goal with :30 left in regulation. I cannot find the goal right now, but as soon as I do I will post it. Regardless, it was a great goal and great for the Coyotes as they have struggled the past 5 or so games and are in danger of being sold.

OK, that is all from thekiiiiid, I need to get going because this computer has a 30 minute timer on it, and I’m cutting it close (I’m not kidding).
