I will keep this short because a) I don’t have the time and b) I will not have a complete opionon until I watch tomorrow’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Rangers won tonight on four days rest, beating the Buffalo Sabres 2-1. The game was close, but the well rested Rangers were able to piece together a full 60 minute contest. Chris Higgins and Ryan Callahan scored the two goals for the Blueshirts while Jason Pominville scored the lone goal for the Sabres (with less than a minute to go).
Henrik Lundqvist and Ryan Mille both looked sharp. They may face each other in the Olympics next year. Lundqvist allowed one goal on 37 shots, while Miller gave up two goals on 32 shots.
The Rangers defeated a very solid team tonight in the Buffalo Sabres (first in the Northeast), but the Rangers have had plenty of rest. It will be interesting to see if they can keep this level of play going tomorrow as they face the Detroit Red Wings (7:00 PM – Madison Square Garden).
Notes:
Steven Valiquette was sent down to the Rangers AHL affiliate (Hartford WolfPAck) this week and Chad Johnson (not Ochocinco) was called up. Not sure what to make of this move…
The Rangers signed Erik Christenson this week. He played his first game as a Ranger tonight, he played 11:00 total minutes.
With Wade Redden injured, Ilkka Heikkinen played his first NHL game.
Brandon Dubinsky (hand) started skating this week, no word on his return…
